Today we are going to listen to a couple stories from an episode of the podcast called “The Moth.” The Moth is a storytelling podcast where people from all around the country tell their personal stories in front of a live audience. This particular episode is called “Where We Belong”, and it is focused around stories about homes and families. The episode includes 5 different stories but there are two in particular that stood out to me (see below).
As you may have heard, we will be hosting and online version of Mission Sunday from May 3rd-May 10th where our 5th/6th graders will be raising money to support NEXUS Youth and Families and Vine Maple Place. As they have been preparing for this auction for the past few months, our 5th/6th graders have been learning a lot about the complexities and heartbreaking realities of homelessness and how it impacts youth and families in our community. As you listen to these stories, I encourage you to think about what home means to you and to ask yourself, “what actions can we take to care for our neighbors who are currently experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness?”
