Holy Week Worship and Activities
Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday services of worship will be livestreamed this year at Messiah. However, there will be two in-person worship activities available on Maundy Thursday (April 1) and Good Friday (April 2).
On Maundy Thursday, the opportunity for in-person Holy Communion will be made available for all congregation members and friends from 12noon until 1:00pm and from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Communion distribution will take place in the north parking lot of our church facility. Everyone attending during these hours is requested to drive into the north lot and remain in your car. You will be guided into receiving Holy Communion, which will be lead by our congregation pastor and a worship support team.
On Good Friday, members and friends are invited to park in the north parking lot anytime between 12noon and 6:00pm. Once parked, we ask that you proceed to the doors nearest the church office. After a short COVID-19 screening, participants can go into Galli Hall for a personal time of prayer and reflection. If you would like, you may bring a hammer for the nailing of personal prayer petitions to the Galli Hall Floor Cross. Paper for prayer petitions, pencils, and nails will be provided for the activity. If you forget a hammer, one that has been cleaned between each use can be provided.
Eight persons at a time will be allowed into Galli Hall. A sign-in will be required, along with the answering of some short screening questions. Masks, fully covering one’s nose and mouth, will also be required, along with hand sanitizing. If you forget a mask, one will be provided for you at the check-in table. If Galli Hall is full at the time you arrive, we ask that you maintain six feet of distance between yourself and persons that are not part of your immediate household.
Our hope is that throughout Good Friday afternoon a steady flow of Messiah people will take advantage of this holy time of prayer and reflection. Our plan is to have recorded music playing during the worship event, which will be punctuated every so often with the sound of prayer petitions being nailed to the cross.
Finally, Maundy Thursday with Holy Communion and Good Friday services of worship will be made available at 7:00pm on both days via Messiah’s website and social media pages. Please join together each evening to close the day with worship.
